UCO Stumbles In Maryville

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma let a five-minute blitz get out of control Sunday afternoon in a 3-0 setback at Northwest Missouri.

The Bronchos are now 4-4-6 on the season and 1-2-4 in the MIAA.

"That one little stretch got out of hand and we didn't have an answer for it," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We didn't play our best overall, but outside of that part of the game, we gave ourselves a chance. But when you let a team score that quickly it makes it really hard."

Northwest Missouri scored in the 31st, 34th, and 36th minutes on Sunday, turning an even matchup from scoreless to a rout in a hurry.

Caroline Faulkner started the game and the junior goalkeeper made four saves in 45 minutes of play. With that, she became just the ninth player in school history to make 100 career saves. Faulkner now has 101 saves in three seasons on the field.

Olivia Vigil played the second half in goal and made four saves in keeping Northwest from any more goals.

Central Oklahoma only took five total shots on Sunday. The Bronchos put three shots on goal.

Albany Adair took two shots, one on goal, playing 42 minutes off the bench. Elena Conaway, Emma Nicholas, and Lauren Piper all took one shot, with Nicholas and Piper putting their attempts on goal.

UCO has four games left in the regular season and all are at home in Edmond. The Bronchos host Washburn, 12-1-1 and in first place in the MIAA, on Friday afternoon. Central also hosts Emporia State, 5-5-4 and in fourth place in the league standings, next Sunday.

Central will close out the regular season at the end of the month with Rogers State and Newman. UCO is in seventh place in the MIAA standings with four games left. The top eight teams make the postseason tournament, and the top four teams host first round games. The semifinals and championship matches will be played at a neutral site in Wichita, Kansas next month.
