Bronchos Down No. 18 UCM

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma knocked off a ranked opponent for the second time in as many weeks with a 3-1 victory at No. 18 Central Missouri.

UCO improved to 16-2 on the season with the win and the Bronchos are now 6-2 in MIAA competition.

"The girls did a great job tonight of staying focused," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "It's very hard to play here and we lost the first set, but the team did a great job of staying focused and working the game plan."

Central Missouri won the first set, 25-20, but the Bronchos bounced back with three straight wins to take the match. UCO won 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21 in the final set.

Sydney Huck led the Bronchos with 26 kills in the match and the freshman from McKinney, Texas also had 27 digs on defense. Mallorie Koehn also had 17 kills.

Lindsey Houran set the offense with 53 assists. She also had six kills from her setter position. Jaedynn Evans had a game-high 29 digs.

Central Missouri took an early lead in the first set and after breaking a 6-6 tie, the Jennies cruised through the first set to a 25-20 win that put the hosts up 1-0 in the match.

The second set was a thriller. The Bronchos and the Jennies were tied 11 times and there were seven lead changes.

Huck had a kill from Houran that tied the match, 19-19. There were still two more ties in the set, 20-20 and 22-22, but Koehn's kill that broke the last tie sparked a 3-0 run to end the set for the Bronchos. An attack error by UCM made it 24-22 and Huck put home the set-ending kill.

The third set was more of the same, with 11 ties and six lead changes. UCM tied it 16-16 but a service error followed and UCO never trailed again. Huck and Koehn each had two more kills down the stretch as the Bronchos finished the third set on a 9-4 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth and final set had less dramatics. Huck broke a 3-3 tie with a kill early in the set and Central Oklahoma never trailed again. UCO led by as many as six points on several occasions. UCM cut it to 22-20 late in the set, but the Bronchos finished off the win.

Lari Migliorino added eight kills for the Bronchos. Jenna Karp had seven. The two combined for five blocks too.

Central Oklahoma will continue a three-game road trip Saturday when the Bronchos take on Missouri Western in St. Joseph, Missouri. UCO is back home next week with a Tuesday midweek MIAA contest against Newman at Hamilton Field House.
