UCO Sweeps Past Griffons

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (Oct. 1) – Central Oklahoma capped off a successful weekend with a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association drubbing of Missouri Western Saturday afternoon at the MWSU Fieldhouse.

The Bronchos – who knocked off No. 18-ranked Central Missouri Friday night in Warrensburg, Mo. – rolled to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 rout for their sixth sweep of the season. UCO improved to 17-2 overall and 7-2 in the league.

"We had a tough match last night and then had to travel again, so it took us a little while to getting started," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We didn't play great, but got good contributions from a lot of players and did what we needed to do. Any win on the road in this league is a good one."

Lari Migliorino and Brynn Egger led a balanced attack with six kills apiece. Migliorino didn't have an error in 11 attacks in hitting .545 and added two blocks, while Egger had one error in 14 attempts in hitting .357.

Jenna Karp and Mallorie Koehn had five kills and two blocks each, with Koehn also serving up three aces. Lindsey Houran handed out 25 assists and had eight digs, while Jaedynn Evans again led the back-row defense with 16 digs.

MWSU led 3-2 early in the opening set and it was tied at 5-all when Egger had two kills and Karp one in a 5-1 run that gave the Bronchos a 10-6 advantage. The Griffons got no closer and UCO pulled away to an easy 11-point win.

The second set was close most of the way, with MWSU holding a series a of three-point leads. The Bronchos trailed 18-15, pulled even at 20-20 on a Koehn kill and went ahead to stay on a Migliorino kill.

UCO scored the final four points to pull away from a 22-21 lead in taking the set, getting a kill and block from Migliorino along with two Missouri Western attack errors.

The Bronchos were up 13-11 in the third set before taking charge, getting aces from Koehn and Migliorino in going ahead 17-12. Maegan Lacy knocked down four kills the rest of the way to close out the set and the sweep.

UCO opens a four-match homestand Tuesday, hosting Newman for a 6 p.m. MIAA contest.
