No. 12 UCO Drops First Game of Season

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – No. 12 Central Oklahoma suffered its first loss of the season Friday night at the hands of No. 4 Central Missouri, 1-0.

UCO, now 6-1-2 on the season, spent nearly all of the 90 minutes in Warrensburg in a gridlocked battle. But an 86th-minute score by the Jennies put the Bronchos in a deficit too late to overcome.

"It was a really good game between two really good teams, but it didn't work out for us tonight," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "Our defense was really good, we just needed a little more offense."

Central Oklahoma fought off shot after shot from an aggressive Central Missouri squad that finished the night with 17 total shots. The Jennies put seven shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Avery Bass made six saves in the game, with four of those coming in the first half. Unfortunately for the Bronchos, Bass just missed grabbing a shot in the 86th minute as Central Missouri's Emma Burden scored the game-winning goal.

Central Oklahoma took eight shots on the offensive end, with sophomore Emily Tincher taking a team-high three. Amaya Grace and Zoe Ross both took two shots and Adria Ramirez took one.

UCO put four of those shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma will wrap up a short, two-game road trip on Sunday at Missouri Southern. The Bronchos are scheduled to kickoff in Joplin at 2 p.m.

UCO is back home next week and will host Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State.
