No. 10 Central Oklahoma Blanks NSU

EDMOND – No. 10 Central Oklahoma ran its unbeaten streak to eight matches Sunday at Tom Thompson Field with a 2-0 win over Northeastern State in the first MIAA game of the season.

Central Oklahoma is now 6-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in league play.

"We played well today all around and that's what you like to see," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We did a good job of limiting their chances. I think we created some good chances and got a couple of those through."

Amaya Grace scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute. Madison Linavong headed a ball forward to Grace, who raced past her defender and made a quick cut to her left before firing home the score.

UCO held that 1-0 lead for nearly all of the next 76 minutes before that same duo put in some work in the final minute of play.

Eden Jones put a ball ahead to Grace, who dribbled toward the corner in open space. She hit a cutting Linavong at the top of the box and Linavong scored with nine seconds left to make it 2-0, UCO.

Linavong entered the week leading the country in assists this season. She got one more on Sunday and has eight on the season. Linavong, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, also has three goals and a team-high 14 points.

Grace scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. She took three shots on Sunday, putting one on frame.

UCO took 10 shots and put five shots on goal. NSU matched the 10 total shots and put four shots on goal.

Avery Bass was back in goal for the Bronchos on Sunday. The true freshman, who earned MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week earlier this season, made four saves and earned her second career shutout. Bass is 4-0-0 in goal with 16 saves and a 0.75 goals against average.

Central Oklahoma will hit the road next week for a pair of MIAA matches and the Bronchos start the weekend with a big one. UCO will visit No. 6 Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Friday night before taking on Missouri Southern in Joplin next Sunday.
