No. 10 UCO Ties Rogers State

EDMOND – Monika McGee put home the equalizer in the 81st minute Friday night to salvage a 1-1 draw for 10th-ranked Central Oklahoma against Rogers State.

Central Oklahoma is now 5-0-2 on the season. The match against UCO's MIAA counterpart is the final non-conference of the season for the Bronchos. Central will host Northeastern State on Sunday in the first league game.

"That was a tough and physical game against a good team," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We think we had some chances we should have put home, but we didn't. Our defense was good short of one little moment and they made us pay for it."

UCO went down 1-0 in the fifth minute of play on Friday. The Bronchos attempted to clear a ball deep in their defensive third, but it wasn't a strong attempt and Rogers State midfielder Maggie Brown intercepted the ball, took a quick dribble, and fired home the game's first score.

Central Oklahoma then spent the next 75 minutes working through a defensive-minded Rogers side. In the 81st minute, left back Albany Adair put a ball in the box that McGee quickly found and placed home for the game-tying score.

Amaya Grace got a shot on goal in the 86th minute, but didn't catch it hard enough. Rogers also got one late shot on goal but Caroline Faulkner made one of her six saves on the night.

Central Oklahoma took 13 shots in the game. Rogers State took 13 shots in the game. Central Oklahoma put six shots on goal. Rogers State put seven on goal. The evenly matched contest ended how the game went.

Faulkner made all of her six saves in the second half.

Central Oklahoma wraps up non-conference play unbeaten. The Bronchos won the first five matches of the 2022 campaign before tying in each of the last two.

UCO now hosts Northeastern State, which it tied 2-2 last Sunday in Tahlequah. Kickoff this weekend is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
