UCO Season Ends In MIAA First Round

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's baseball team's season ended Saturday evening with a 6-2 loss to Washburn in Game 2 of the first round of the MIAA Baseball Championships at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO finished the 2022 season 29-21.

"It just didn't work out for us today," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "I'm proud of the team this year for battling all the way through and I'm especially proud of our seniors for everything they did for our program."

A trio of senior pitchers worked on Saturday for the Bronchos.

Tucker Elliott started and threw six innings. The right-hander allowed seven hits and four runs while issuing three walks. He struck out seven batters in his final career collegiate game.

Beaux Bonvillain threw the seventh inning and didn't issue a hit or walk. He struck out two in the final game of his collegiate career.

And Kyler Patterson threw the final two innings. He gave up two runs on two hits. And he also struck out two in the final game of his collegiate career.

All three struck out the final batter they faced.

All three had solid outings, but the Bronchos bats never got it going on Saturday.

Central Oklahoma had just four hits in the game. Landen Wood was responsible for two of them. Noah Olson and Trevor Stevens also had base knocks. None of the four were for extra bases.

Central Oklahoma did have a lead early in the game.

A wild second inning plated the first run of the game. Olson drew a walk to lead off the inning. Then Stevens, Kaleb Glass and Wyatt Gray were all hit by a pitch. The latter scored Olson and gave UCO a 1-0 lead.

Washburn responded though with three in the third. A bases loaded walk was followed by a two-RBI single and WU led 3-1.

Washburn took a 4-1 lead in the fourth before UCO got one back.

Clayton Peterson picked up an RBI groundout to score Wood, who singled to center field earlier in the inning. That made it 4-2.

UCO seemed to still have a fighting chance until Washburn scored two more in the ninth to put the game away.
