UCO Season Ends At Super Regional

CLAREMORE, Okla. (May 20) – This one, unfortunately, was over early.

No. 8-ranked Central Oklahoma ended the 2022 season on a sour note Saturday afternoon with a 12-1 run-rule loss to No. 4 Rogers State in the Central Super Regional at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The Hillcats erupted for nine runs in the second inning and cruised from there in finishing off a sweep in the best-of-three series. RSU improved to 53-10 in moving on to the Division II World Series, which will be May 26-31 in Denver, Colo.

The Bronchos ended the season 48-13, tied for the second-most wins in program history. UCO qualified for the Division II playoffs for the 14th time since 2002 and was making its fourth Super Regional appearance.

"Credit goes to their hitters," head coach Cody White said. "They hit some mistakes against us and took advantage of those mistakes. It was tough to stop the bleeding at that point."

The game started off promising enough, with the Bronchos grabbing a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Tarin Dubler reached on a two-out infield single and swiped second – just her fifth stolen base of the season – before scoring on Jacee Minter's nation-leading 26th double, this one a line-drive rocket off the center field fence.

But the lead was short-lived.

UCO used three pitchers in the top of the second to no avail. The Hillcats smacked three home runs among their nine hits in the big inning to open up a 9-1 cushion.

RSU made it 10-1 in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth to arrange the final margin. The Hillcats finished with 11 hits as UCO gave up the second-most runs it allowed this season.

"I was really proud of our team when things kind of got out of hand there," White said. "That's what we kept preaching was 'stay us. We have to keep battling and stay us.' Keep our heads up high right now.

"I talked to our team at the end and told them to think about all the positives right now. There was a lot of growth with our team, individually and as a team. We had a great season and have a lot be proud of. Being one of the last 16 teams playing is quite an accomplishment."

Five different players had one hit apiece for the Bronchos.

It was the final game for four UCO seniors – Dubler, Brighton Gilbert, Lexy Dobson and Bailey McKittrick.
