Central Oklahoma Downed By Oklahoma Baptist

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's good start and strong ending wasn't enough to overcome a tumultuous mid-game stumble and the Bronchos lost 12-6 to Oklahoma Baptist Tuesday night at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central Oklahoma dropped to 24-17 with the loss. The Bronchos did take the season series from OBU 2-1.

"We went in planning on using a lot of different arms and it's good to be able to do that, but they got after us with a few big innings," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We didn't do a good job of limiting those runs when they did that. But it is still good to get a lot of guys some real game time on the field."

Central Oklahoma scored one in the bottom of the first and led 3-0 after two innings. UCO also scored two in the bottom of the ninth. But the Bronchos were outscored 11-1 from the third to the eighth inning on Tuesday.

Nine Bronchos took to the mound in the game and seven of them threw one inning.

Jacob Bailey started and struck out one and Owen Logan pitched the second, also striking out one. The two kept OBU to one hit and no runs.

Blake Bautz threw the third and he gave up three runs on three hits and a walk. He did strike out two in the frame.

Ethan Wayland threw one inning and struck out two, again keeping OBU off the board. Coby Grimsley pitched the fourth and gave up one run on three hits and a walk.

Jase Farmer threw just 2/3 of an inning and he ultimately took the loss in the game. He gave up four runs on three hits. A.J. Ozorio-Brace replaced Farmer in the fifth and he threw 1 1/3, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.

Brian Skillman pitched the eighth, allowing two runs on three hits. Then Dave Janssen, who has caught 15 games for the Bronchos this season, came on to pitch the ninth. He struck out three in the top of the ninth, but he did allow one home run and another single and a walk.

Jaden Parsons led what offense UCO could get going on Tuesday. The senior went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and he also had one RBI. Parsons scored the game's first run after a leadoff double. Clayton Peterson's sacrifice fly moved him to third and Garrett Takamatsu scored Parsons on an RBI groundout.

Parsons also singled in the fifth and Takamatsu scored him again, this time with a double to left center.

Wyatt Gray and Trevor Stevens both scored in the bottom of the second. Stevens went 2-for-3 in the game. Gray was 0-for-2 with a walk.

Alex Austin, who pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth, got to first after being plunked in the back of the neck. He scored from first on Kaden Marshall's double down the left field line.

Marshall scored later in the inning when Parsons singled to right field.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to host Central Missouri for a three-game MIAA series this weekend. The games have been moved up a day due to weather and the Bronchos will now play Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Central Oklahoma will begin the series Thursday at 6 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field. Friday's contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the teams will wrap up the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
