UCO Drops Series Opener At Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma had the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning but it didn't go the Broncho way and UCO suffered a 10-8 loss at Northwest Missouri Thursday afternoon.

Central Oklahoma is now 22-16 on the season and the Bronchos are 14-11 in MIAA play. Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. and the teams will wrap up the three-game series Saturday at 1 p.m.

"We had a chance but it didn't work out this time," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We got in a hole in the middle of the game that we didn't like but we fought back and we had a chance. We'll try to put this one behind us and do better tomorrow."

Central put together a late rally, trailing 10-6 with no outs in the top of the ninth inning. Three straight singles by Noah Olson, Wyatt Gray and Kaleb Glass loaded the bases and then Seth Gray drew a walk that scored Olson and made it 10-7.

UCO now had the go-ahead run at the plate in pinch-hitter Alex Austin, but he grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. Wyatt Gray scored on the play to make it 10-8. Austin Lambert then pinch hit too but he struck out to end the game.

Central Oklahoma scattered 11 hits in the game to get eight runs. The Bronchos were led by Olson's three hits. He finished 3-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Wyatt Gray also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. He had one of two extra-base hits with a double. Seth Gray had the other, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning. He finished 1-for-3 with four RBIs, scoring two more on a bases loaded hit by pitch and a bases loaded walk.

Lawson Isaacs took to the mound to start the series. He allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work. Jacob Bailey relieved Isaacs and gave up three runs on two hits before being pulled after just 2/3 innings of work.

A.J. Ozorio-Brace gave up one run on a pair of walks and Blake Bautz did the same.

Kyler Patterson came on to finish the game, throwing two innings and allowing no runs on one hit and no walks. Patterson struck out three in his outing. Bailey also had one strikeout.
