Central Oklahoma Blanked In Game 2 With Southern

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma's hitting woes continued this weekend in a 7-0 setback against Missouri Southern in the second game of a three-game stand at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central, which mustered just three hits in a 5-2 defeat on Saturday, only found one hit on Sunday.

"We just need to go out there and battle at the plate and get our confidence back," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We had it going for the last two weeks but we need to find our way to get back to that."

Garrett Takamatsu picked up a single in the bottom of the seventh for UCO's first and only hit of the game. He was 1-for-3 on the day and also got on base in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out walk.

Austin Lambert, who was 0-for-2 in the game, drew a walk in the fifth and Clayton Peterson also drew a walk in the bottom of the ninth in front of Takamatsu to give Central its only other baserunners in the game.

Tucker Elliott started for UCO Sunday and gave up four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings. He was ejected and ended his day earlier than intended.

A.J. Ozorio-Brace threw 3 1/3 innings of relief work, giving up one run on two hits. Coby Grimsley threw two innings out of the bullpen and gave up the final two runs. Jase Farmer threw the ninth inning.

Central Oklahoma had eight strikeouts in the game. Elliott had three while Ozorio-Brace and Grimsley had two each. Farmer had one.

The third and final game of the series is scheduled for Monday at 1 p.m.
