EDMOND (Feb. 13) – Kylee Lynch capped a dominating weekend in the pitching circle with a two-hit shutout as No. 20-ranked Central Oklahoma battered Southwestern Oklahoma 8-0 Sunday night at Gerry Pinkston Stadium in the final game of the UCO Festival.
It was the fifth straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 7-2 on the season. Jacee Minter went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, Lexy Dobson 3-for-3 and Terin Ritz had two hits with three RBI in leading an 11-hit attack in the run-rule rout that ended in the sixth inning.
"It was a good way to end the weekend," said head coach Cody White, whose team outscored four opponents 28-4 during the three-day event. "Kylee had great control tonight and was really on her game. We swung the bats well and did what we're capable of offensively."
Lynch needed just 63 pitches in the six-inning contest, striking out five and not walking a batter in improving to 5-0. The sophomore southpaw allowed just seven hits and one run in throwing three complete games during the weekend.
The Bronchos broke on top 2-0 in their first at bat. Tarin Dubler drew a two-out walk, Minter lined a shot down the right field line for her first career triple and Terin Ritz followed with an RBI single to right-center.
UCO added another run in the second when Dobson hit a one-out single up the middle then scored on Shayla Harper's triple down the right field line.
Central stretched its lead to 6-0 with a three-run outburst in the fifth.
Minter got the inning going with a one-out single to right-center, then Ritz mashed a massive home run to straightaway center field – the first career dinger for the freshman slugger. Korbyn Skipworth tripled down the right field line and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.
UCO finished off the rout it in the sixth with a pair of runs. Dobson led off with a single and scored on pinch-hitter Taylor McKittrick's double down the left field line before Minter ended it with an RBI single up the middle.
