Bronchos Downed By Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – The UCO baseball team opened its three-game series at MSU Denver Friday afternoon with a setback, falling to the Roadrunners 12-2 in seven innings.
 
"We gave them too much early," UCO head coach John Martin said. "We let ourselves get in a hole and that was too much to dig out of it. Now we have to respond."
 
Jacob Bailey got the start for the Bronchos. He gave up six earned runs on four hits and five walks in three innings of work. Bailey did strike out three batters.
 
MSU Denver led 6-0 after three innings.
 
Coby Grimsley came on to pitch in the fourth inning. He allowed two more runs on two hits and two walks. The first run allowed in the fourth made it 7-0. MSU Denver made it 8-1 in the fifth, scoring a second run off Grimsley.
 
Owen Logan threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and one walk. He did strike out four in his outing. Blake Bautz threw the seventh inning, but gave up two earned runs on two hits, including a home run that ended the game.
 
Central got the first of its two runs in the fifth inning.
 
Shane Nixon was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a single by Dave Janssen. Landen Wood followed with a single to left field to load the bases, then Nixon scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the seventh, Nixon led off with a double to right field. After Seth Gray was hit by a pitch, Janssen hit into a double play but Nixon did move to third on the play. He scored on a wild pitch again to make it 8-2.
 
Central Oklahoma scattered five hits on Friday.
 
Noah Olson went 1-for-4, Nixon went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored, Janssen went 1-for-3, and Wood went 2-for-2 with a walk.
 
Central Oklahoma and MSU Denver will play Game 2 of the three-game series Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. local time.
