Central Oklahoma Goes Cold in Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma never found a rhythm in a 73-52 loss at Nebraska Kearney Sunday afternoon.

The Bronchos fell to 4-6 on the season following the loss and UCO is now 1-5 in MIAA games.

"We didn't play well defensively and we couldn't get anything going on the offensive side either," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "We thought we could make some halftime adjustments but Kearney, they're a good team, and we just couldn't keep up today."

Central Oklahoma is off for the holiday break. The Bronchos don't play again until New Year's Eve, when UCO hosts Washburn at Hamilton Field House in Edmond.

Central shot just 33.9 percent from the floor on Sunday afternoon and the Bronchos hit only 5 of 20 3-point attempts. UCO did put up a 9-for-9 mark from the free-throw line.

UNK hit only one more 3-pointer than UCO and also made nine shots from the free-throw line, but the host Lopers hit 10 more shots total and shot 49.2 percent overall. Kearney outscored UCO 46-24 in the paint and 11-2 on second-chance points.

Alayzha Knapp led the Bronchos in scoring, putting up 18 points to go with six rebounds. Knapp went 7-for-16 overall and was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Brooke Rayner scored 15 points to go with four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. She went 6-for-11 overall and  3-for-8 from behind the 3-point line.

Aliyah Llanusa made it three Bronchos in double figures with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. She also had three assists and one steal. Llanusa was 4-for-12 overall, 1-for-3 from behind the arc, and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Karly Wadsworth and Kassie Boorer both scored three points for the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to host Washburn on New Year's Eve followed by Emporia State on Jan. 2, 2023. UCO has 16 MIAA games remaining beginning with Washburn in two weeks.
