Bronchos Claim Five Titles In Kansas

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. (Nov. 6) – Dylan Lucas overwhelmed the field to capture the 133-pound title and lead a parade of five Central Oklahoma champions at the Dan Harris Open Sunday.

The No. 4-ranked Bronchos also got gold medal efforts from 125 Studd Morris, 141 Ryder Ramsey, 184 Anthony DesVigne and Hvy Braden Morgan, with UCO finishing runner-up at three of those weights.

"It was a pretty good day overall," head coach Todd Steidley said. "It was good for our guys to wrestle a bunch of matches and they did some good things. We have a lot of work to do, but it's the first week of the season and we're going to get better."

Lucas wasn't tested in going 4-0 on the day. The sophomore newcomer followed an opening-round bye with 16-0 and 17-1 technical falls before scoring a first-period pin in the semifinals.

Another dominating effort following in the title match as Lucas struck for three takedowns and three near-falls in opening up a 16-2 lead over Central Missouri's Elijah Reece before ending it at the 2:44 mark.

The junior had a first-period takedown, second-period escape and riding time point against two escapes for Steidley.

Ramsey started the day with three easy wins, then rolled to an 11-0 major decision in the semifinals. The redshirt freshman capped his perfect day by edging Raphael Marascio 6-4 in the title match behind a pair of takedowns.

DesVigne waltzed into the finals with no trouble, claiming a first-period fall, 16-0 technical fall and two easy wins. The junior picked up the title by medical forfeit over Wells, who also didn't have any trouble in making the finals.

The freshman followed a first-round bye with 4-0 and 8-0 shutouts before cruising to an 11-4 semifinal triumph.

Morgan followed an opening-round bye with a first-period fall and methodical wins of 7-3 and 7-2 to move into the finals opposite Arriola, who stated with three straight falls before pulling out a 5-3 sudden-victory decision in the semis.

The two big men traded escapes in finishing regulation tied at 1-1, then neither could score in the sudden-victory period. Arriola escaped in the first tiebreaker, but Morgan struck for a takedown to go ahead 3-2 and held on when Arriola couldn't get a turn in the final 30-second tiebreaker.

Johnson followed an opening bye with 8-2, 14-6 and 8-4 wins before dropping a 5-4 decision in the semifinals. The redshirt freshmen responded with a 9-3 victory and 15-5 major decision in taking third.
