No. 21 Bronchos Fall to No. 10 Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. (Nov. 2) – No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri was too much for No. 21 Central Oklahoma Tuesday night as the Bronchos dropped a three-set decision in the final match of the regular season.

The Bearcats prevailed 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 to clinch the regular-season league title, improving to 22-5 overall and 16-3 in the conference with one match left. The Bronchos, who swept NWMSU at home last month, fell to 24-6 and ended 14-6 in the MIAA.

"We fought hard, but didn't play well enough to win the match," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Our offense wasn't as sharp as it needed to be and you can't do that against a team like Northwest.

"We just need to regroup and get ready for the conference tournament. We'll have a few extra days to prepare for that and hopefully can use that time to our advantage."

Depending on this weekend's results, UCO will be the third or fourth seed for the MIAA Volleyball Championship that is set for Nov. 10-12 in St. Joseph, Mo. Eight teams qualify, with the winner earning the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II national tournament.

The Bronchos hit just .138 against NWMSU, committing 20 attack errors.

Jenna Karp didn't have any miscues in hitting .423, knocking down 11 kills in 26 attempts. Sydney Huck added 10 kills and 14 digs.

The Bronchos also got a solid all-around outing form Lari Migliorino, who finished with nine kills, three blocks and two service aces. Lindsey Houran had 36 assists and nine digs, while national digs leader Jaedynn Evans dug up 21 attacks.

UCO never led in the opening set and was down 24-18 before making things interesting. Migliorino had two aces and Karp a kill in a 5-0 run that got the Bronchos within 24-22, but NWMSU got a kill of their own to end it.

Central had a 5-3 lead early in the second set before the Bearcats took control and NWMSU led most of the third set in closing out the sweep.
