UCO Downed By Bearcats

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma just missed on multiple chances and never found the back of the net as the Bronchos suffered a 2-0 setback to Northwest Missouri Sunday afternoon at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO is now 9-2-3 overall on the season and 4-2-1 in MIAA play.

"We got some good looks and their goalkeeper made some great saves," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We needed to keep up that pace and keep attacking more, but credit to Northwest. They got us today."

Northwest goalkeeper made five first-half saves, including two diving stops. The Bronchos took eight shots in the first 45, but just couldn't get one through.

Northwest took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute and held that lead through halftime.

In the second half, Central's offense slowed a little. The Bronchos took only three shots in the second half and put two of those on goal.

NWMSU put the game out of reach with a penalty in the 67th minute. The referee whistled the Bronchos on a tackle inside the box and the Bearcats stepped up to the mark and made it the final, 2-0.

Caroline Faulkner played all 90 minutes in goal for Central Oklahoma. The third-year sophomore keeper from Tulsa, who made a career-high eight saves on Friday night, made eight more saves on Sunday.

Central Oklahoma celebrated its senior class before the game. The Bronchos will play the final two weeks of the regular season on the road. UCO plays at Washburn and at Emporia State next weekend before traveling to Rogers State and Newman in two weeks.

The 2022 MIAA Championship begins on Sunday, Oct. 30 with the top four teams in the standings hosting quarterfinal matches.
