Bronchos Outrun Blue Tigers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team beat Lincoln Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos used a big second-half run to pull away for the 72-57 victory.
 
Central Oklahoma improved to 11-6 on the season with the win and UCO is now 7-4 in MIAA play.
 
Three Bronchos posted double figures Saturday. Kelsey Johnson led the way with 24 points, Brooke Rayner scored 15, and Alayzha Knapp put up 13 points.
 
"We didn't play very well in the first half but we did enough to respond and play better and get the win," UCO head women's basketball coach Guy Hardaker said. "Defensively we played well toward the end of the game and on offense we did a better job of getting to the free-throw line,"
 
Central Oklahoma built a good first quarter lead, holding a 17-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. But the game was tied, 27-27 at halftime. UCO had a two-point lead going to the fourth quarter, but a late run gave the Bronchos a path to run through to victory.
 
Central Oklahoma opened the fourth quarter on a 10-2 run and only made one basket during the stretch. UCO went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line while forcing three turnovers and after just two minutes of play in the final frame, the Bronchos had a big lead.
 
UCO outscored Lincoln 25-12 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the victory.
 
Johnson scored 24 points, going 10-for-14 for the game. She was 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. Johnson also had nine rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist in the game.
 
Rayner scored 15 points on 4 of 8 shooting, including 3-for-5 from behind the 3-point line. She was also 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Rayner added six rebounds and five assists to go with a block and a steal.
 
Knapp scored 13 points to go with five rebounds, one block and one steal. She was 3-for-9 from the floor and made 7 of 10 from the free-throw line.
 
UCO shot 41.4 percent from the field Saturday afternoon. The Bronchos were 5 of 17 from behind the 3-point line and 19-for-27 from the free-throw line.
 
Avery Allen, Aliyah Llanusa, and Jaci Littell all chipped in five points too for the Bronchos on Saturday. Llanusa led UCO with seven assists in the game and she also had six boards.
 
Caley Young and Clary Donica each scored two points. Young had five rebounds too. Taylor Dement scored one points and had one board and one assist as well for the Bronchos.
 
Central Oklahoma will return to Edmond for two home games next week. The Bronchos are scheduled to play Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western on Thursday and Saturday at Hamilton Field House.
