Central Oklahoma Puts Away OC

A First-Half Brace From Monika McGee Sparks A Rout Of Nearby Rival

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team whipped Oklahoma Christian 4-0 Thursday night in a non-conference match at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO, now 2-1 on the young season, got a pair of first-half goals from Monika McGee and a pair of second-half goals from Brooke Moore and Eden Jones. Central also held the Eagles of Oklahoma City to just six total shots on the night.

"We played really well on both sides of the ball tonight," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "Monika was great getting us going early in the game and that's what she brings to this team, that's why she's a captain. And I think the second half goals we did a good job of staying aggressive when we had a lead."

Kaitlyn Asher picked up the win in goal for the Bronchos after playing just over 68 minutes. She did not have to make a single save though. Olivia Vigil, an Edmond freshman, made her Broncho debut and made four late saves in a little over 20 minutes of action.

McGee gave Central an early boost, scoring as many goals for UCO in the first 23 minutes of play Thursday night as the Bronchos managed in two games last week.

McGee's first, a header from a couple yards out, came after Taryn Kedzior's free kick fell in front of the net. Lauren Hinnenkamp almost connected on a header herself and McGee was in perfect position to finish off the play and put UCO ahead 1-0 in the 17th minute.

Just a few moments later, McGee lobbed a shot into the air from more than 20 yards out on the right side, dropping it perfectly into the back of the net to give UCO a 2-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Central outshot OC 10-1 in the first half but still went to the locker room with the 2-0 lead.

In the second half, and just one minute into the second half, Central was back at it with the pressure. Kassidy Collins fed a perfect through pass to Moore, who slotted home her first goal of the season to the bottom left corner to give UCO a 3-0 lead with 44 minutes remaining in the game.

It took UCO a minute to get the next one, but Jones found the net on a play she made all on her own.

After a brief stoppage from the referee to clear the air following a UCO foul by Jones, the third-year sophomore from San Antonio found the ball near midfield and weaved her way through traffic all the way near the OC goal line before snapping back a shot with her left foot to make it 4-0 Central Oklahoma in the 69th minute.

Central took 20 shots Thursday night, an even 10 in each half. The Bronchos put 11 of those 20 shots on goal too. McGee and Collins both had two shots on goal, as did Madison Linavong off the bench. Collins and Linavong both took a game-high four shots each. Hannah Daaboul also took three shots off the bench.

Central Oklahoma continues a four-game homestand this weekend. The Bronchos take on Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at 7 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
