UCO Rolls Past Tigers

EDMOND (Sept. 24) – A balanced attack led Central Oklahoma to another dominating home win Friday night as the Bronchos blitzed Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Fort Hays State.

UCO overwhelmed the Tigers 25-16, 25-22, 25-16 to stay perfect (5-0) at Hamilton Field House. The Bronchos improved to 9-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. showdown with No. 4-ranked Nebraska-Kearney.

"We got contributions from a lot of different players and came out with a good win," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Hopefully this will give us some momentum for tomorrow. UNK is one of the best teams in the country and it's going to be a big challenge for us."

Central hit a solid .333 as a team, registering 47 kills against just 14 errors in 99 attacks.

Lauren Jenkins led the way, hitting .500 with 10 kills and two errors in 16 attempts. Mallory Hendrix and Courtney Lane knocked down eight kills apiece, while Jenna Karp and Amanda Desch had seven each.

Karp also had five blocks, with Desch adding 30 assists and three blocks. Katie Le led the back-row defense once again with a match-high 14 digs.

The Bronchos never trailed in the opening set, breaking away from an early 1-1 tie with five straight points to take control as Lane had two kills.

It was close throughout the second set. The Tigers were within 21-20 after a service ace before the Bronchos got kills from Lane and Desch in closing out the set.

Central trailed for the first and only time of the match early in the third set at 3-2. A McCrary kill, a combined block by McClary and Mallorie Koehn and a Desch kill put the Bronchos in the lead and they stayed in control the rest of the way.
