No. 10 Bronchos Fall To No. 7 DBU

DALLAS, Texas (Sept. 2) – No. 7-ranked Dallas Baptist scored two goals in the final 5:12 to hand No. 10 Central Oklahoma a tough 2-1 loss Thursday night in the 2021 season opener.

The Bronchos of veteran head coach Mike Cook played tough defense throughout the contest in keeping DBU out of the net before the Patriots converted two straight opportunities down the stretch.

"I was really proud of the way we played tonight," Cook said. "Our defense did a great job, but we got a little worn out and Dallas Baptist took advantage. We battled hard and I saw a lot of good things tonight."

The Bronchos jumped on top quickly, with Eden Jones notching an unassisted goal just 3:16 into the game. It was the fourth career goal for the sophomore midfielder.

UCO's defense was stout in the opening half, limiting the Patriots to five shots. DBU managed to get close enough to take three attempts on goal, but senior Kaitlyn Asher rejected each of them.

Emily Tincher had the only shot on goal for the Bronchos in the first half, but it was stopped at the 9:27 mark.

Asher knocked down three more DBU shots on goal in the second half before the Patriots finally broke through off a corner kick with 5:12 left to tie it.

Dallas Baptist – which scored 44 goals in 14 spring games en route to winning the Lone Star Conference title -- came right back three minutes later to break the deadlock, scoring with just 2:13 left to play.

Lauren Hinnenkamp had UCO's only shot on goal in the second half and the Bronchos failed to convert on back-to-back corner kick tries with just over a minute remaining.

Central makes its home debut Saturday, hosting Midwestern State in another non-conference tilt at 7 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
