UCO Rocks The Riverhawks

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma used an early second half blitz to blow past Northeastern State 4-0 Friday night in a non-conference matchup of MIAA rivals.

The Bronchos, now 3-2 on the season, took a 1-0 lead into halftime but scored three goals in as many minutes early in the second half to pull away from longtime rival.

Taryn Kedzior scored the game's opening goal and was as early in the first half as the Central onslaught in the second half.

Kedzior took a pass from Katie Gasaway inside the box and the left-footed winger slotted home the goal with her right foot to put the Bronchos ahead 1-0 in the eighth minute.

The game stayed that way through the first half, with Central outshooting NSU 10-4 in the first 45 minutes.

Out of halftime, one quick burst turned into another for UCO.

Kassidy Collins took a ball near midfield after Caroline Faulkner's punt from the other end of the field. The second-year freshman didn't need much room to free herself from the defender and soon raced uncontested all the way to the NSU box before flipping in her third goal of the season to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead in the 54th minute.

Less than a minute later, Avery Holland's throw in found Madison Linavong, who quickly found a wide open and sprinting down field Eden Jones. Jones had the same breakaway as Collins and found the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Less than a minute later again, it was Central back on the attack.

Kedzior took a pass about 30 yards out on the left side of the box and dribbled down before sending in a cross right in front of the NSU keeper. Collins stood ready on the other side and found the net again for the second time on the night to give the Bronchos a 4-0 lead.

Central scored its three second-half goals in two minutes and five seconds.

Friday for the Bronchos, the defense was just as good.

UCO outshot NSU 18-6 in the game and Faulkner saved all six shots, playing 89 minutes in goal for the Bronchos.

Central posted its third shutout in five games this season. It's the first career win for Faulkner, another second-year freshman who made her season debut Friday night.

Central Oklahoma will be back in action this weekend but will be on the road. After a four-game homestand, the Bronchos now travel to Wichita, Kansas for a matchup with Newman on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
