Bronchos Sweep OC

EDMOND (Sept. 11) – Central Oklahoma's final tune-up before beginning conference play was no contest as the Bronchos cruised past near-by rival Oklahoma Christian Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO trailed briefly in only one of the three sets in posting 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 wins in their first-ever meeting with the Eagles to cap a perfect weekend in the Broncho Invitational.

It was the fifth straight victory for the Bronchos (7-1), who open their Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play next week with a pair of road matches.

"We got off to a strong start and had a solid match," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "I was proud of the way we fought through some things this weekend to finish off the non-conference schedule on a good note."

Three players collected double-digit kills and each hit better than .400 with one combined attack error – Courtney Lane (15, .429), Lauren Jenkins (11, .458) and Brynn Egger (10, .409).

Jenna Karp and Mallory Hendrix chipped in six kills apiece, with Karp also blocking four shots while Hendrix added 33 assists and two blocks.

Katie Le (19), Lane (14) and Amanda Desch (10) all had 10-plus digs to pace the defense.

UCO jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set and was never tested. It was 18-12 when the Bronchos finished with seven straight points to close it out, with Jenkins getting two of her five kills in the set during that surge.

The Eagles led 3-1 early in the second set, but UCO came back with a 6-1 run to move in front and went on to take a 19-13 lead. OC rallied to tie it at 20, then back-to-back kills by Jenkins and Karp put the Bronchos ahead to stay.

Central never trailed in the final set after Hendrix opened play with a solo block. Egger had five kills and Lane four as the Bronchos stayed safely in front on their way to finish off the sweep.
