UCO Opens Camp

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma football team opened fall camp this weekend ahead of the steadily approaching 2021 season.

Central welcomed well over 100 student-athletes to campus this weekend with Saturday's check in. The Bronchos spent time taking care of housekeeping duties as well as some team-building activities like a day at nearby Lake Arcadia.

Monday morning, the team hit the field.

"I'm excited about just being in camp," UCO's 10th-year head football coach Nick Bobeck said. "It's great to have all of these guys on campus but just to be involved in camp is great. The eating together, the team activities, all of that. This is such an important part of the process but I think it's one of the best parts."

Central Oklahoma will hold practices for the next two weeks before school starts Aug. 23 and the Bronchos can then settle into their fall schedule.

UCO opens the 2021 season Thursday, Sept. 2 against Missouri Western. Kickoff at Wantland Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Bronchos are scheduled to play five home games and six road games this fall, with all 11 contests MIAA matchups. UCO will play twice on Thursday, Week 1 at home against MWSU and Week 6 at Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Central will play its other nine games on Saturday's this fall.

UCO returns just 26 lettermen from the 2019 squad. Central did not play in 2020 due to the pandemic. The time between the final game of the 2019 season and the opening kickoff of the 2021 season will be 656 days.
