UCO Falls To No. 5 Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. (Nov. 5) – Central Oklahoma couldn't stay with No. 5-ranked Northwest Missouri Friday night as the Bronchos dropped a three-set Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association decision.

The Bearcats had a .402 attack percentage – the best by a UCO opponent this season – in winning 25-11, 25-19, 25-15. The Bronchos fell to 18-8 on the year and 11-7 in league play, while NWMSU improved to 20-4 and 13-3.

"Northwest played great tonight and were just too much for us," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We have to put it behind us and get ready for tomorrow."

Central moves on to St. Joseph, Mo. Saturday for a 5:30 contest against Missouri Western then wraps up the regular season at home Tuesday against No. 2 Central Missouri.

The Bronchos hit just .124 in the contest, collecting 29 kills against 14 errors in 121 attacks.

Courtney Lane led UCO with eight kills, while Mallorie Koehn and Jenna Karp had six apiece. Brynn Egger chipped in four kills and Katie Le had 13 digs to pace the defense.

The Bearcats had just four attack errors in 107 attempts while piling up 47 kills. NWMSU added 10 service aces.

The Bronchos fell behind 6-1 and never recovered in dropping the first set, then went back-and-forth with Northwest in the second set.

A Koehn kill gave UCO a 6-3 lead, but the Bearcats responded with eight straight points to surge in front 11-6. The Bronchos trailed 14-11 before going on a 5-1 run to regain the lead at 16-15.

Lane had two kills and Amanda Desch two aces during that spurt, but NWMSU came right back with five unanswered points to seize a 20-15 advantage and went on to close out the set.

UCO was within 9-8 in the third set after a Nalani McCrary kill before the Bearcats used an 11-0 run to take control.
