Central Oklahoma Whips Jarvis Christian

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team never faltered in a 112-62 blowout of Jarvis Christian Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.

Central Oklahoma improved to 3-0 on the season with the 50-point victory. Jarvis Christian, an NAIA school from Hawkins, Texas, played Wednesday's contest as an exhibition.

"It's good to be able to get games like this where guys can get it going early and you start to see your potential," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "Jarvis Christian has some really athletic guys and I think they'll do really well this season. We played well tonight and it was good to see the guys get going like they did."

Isaiah Wade led the charge.

The senior forward played just 14 minutes, but that didn't stop the big from posting a 24-point, 10-rebound effort. Wade was 10-for-14 from the floor, including a make on his only 3-point attempt. He also went 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

Jalyn Turner and Jaden Wells both went 5-for-7 from the floor Wednesday night. Turner scored 15 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists. Wells scored 14 points to go with four boards and three assists. Wells also had a game-high four made 3-pointers (he has 11 in three games this season) and Turner also hit two from outside.

Davon Richardson scored 12 points off the bench to go with five rebounds. He was 6-for-7 from the field. Danquez Dawsey made it five Bronchos in double figures. The true freshman guard scored 10 points to go with five rebounds. He also hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Preston Aymond and Conner Calavan both scored nine points, with Calavan hitting three from outside. Callen Haydon had eight points, six assists, and four rebounds. Landon Streich added seven points, Carson Calavan scored three, and Seth Hurd had one point.

UCO shot a blistering 57.3 percent from the floor and was almost just as good from behind the 3-point line. Central hit 15 of 28 outside shots. The Bronchos also made 11 free-throws.

Turner scored the game's first bucket and Wade made it 4-0 all within the first 42 seconds. A steal and layup by Turner made it 10-2, UCO just 2:48 seconds into the action.

Central never looked back. Carson  Calavan made a 3-pointer to give Central a 34-15 lead halfway through the first half. The first of two Aymond dunks with just under three minutes left made it a 30-point game. Dawsey gave Central its biggest lead of the first half when he made a layup with 37 seconds left to put the Bronchos in front 62-25.

Wade hit a 3-pointer to hit the 40-point lead margin with still 18-plus minutes to go in the second half. Streich had a big dunk with 4:31 to play that put Central up by 50 points, 104-54. Dawsey also gave Central its biggest lead of the second half, 53 points, when he hit a late 3-pointer.

Central Oklahoma wrapped up a three-game season-opening homestand with a perfect 3-0 record. The Bronchos will hit the road Saturday to take on Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas. UCO is home again a week after that to take on Cameron Saturday, Nov. 27 at Hamilton Field House.
