No. 4 Bronchos Host No. 13 Indy

No. 4- ranked Central Oklahoma wraps up a two-match homestand Sunday when the Bronchos host No. 13 Indianapolis for a 2 p.m. showdown of NCAA Division II powers at Hamilton Field House.

Both teams are 1-0 on the young season. UCO blitzed NAIA's No. 11-rated Oklahoma City 48-(-1) on Wednesday, while the Greyhounds rolled over Division III Defiance 57-0 on Nov. 2.

"Indy has a good team, so we have to be ready to go," head coach Todd Steidley said. "It's early, but this is a big match for us since they're in our region and all the individual match-ups are important."

The teams have met just once, with the Bronchos claiming a 39-6 win in Edmond during the 1996-97 season at the Division II Showdown Duals.

UCO will also send a contingent of 20-plus individuals to the Carl Albert Open in Poteau, Okla., with that all-day tournament set to start at 9 a.m.

UCO AT HOME: Central has enjoyed great success at Hamilton Field House, having compiled a 224-61-2 record since the program was re-instated for the 1972-73 season.

Steidley has a 23-2 home record and the Bronchos are riding an eight-match HFH winning streak.

THE LINEUPS: Here's a look at the probable lineups, with UCO listed first:

125 – Paxton Rosen, Jr. (6-0) vs. Noah Cantu, Jr. (2-2); 133 – Tanner Cole, Jr. (5-1) vs. Chase Wilkerson, So. (3-2); 141 – Nate Keim, Jr. (5-0) vs. Breyden Bailey, Jr. (4-1); 149 – Brik Filippo, Jr. (6-0) vs. Logan Bailey, Fr. (5-0); 157 – Ty Lucas, Jr. (1-0) vs. Nathan Conley, RS Fr. (4-1) or Wade Monebrake, RS Fr. (1-2); 165 – Anthony DesVigne, So. (5-1) vs. Jack Eiteljorge, So. (4-0); 174 – Kalin Winkler, Jr. (3-0) vs. Andrew Sams, Jr. (4-1); 184 – Heath Gray, Sr. (1-0) vs. Gleason Mappes, Jr. (3-1); 197 – Dalton Abney, So. (1-0) vs. Derek Blubaugh, RS Fr. (5-0); Hvy – Braden Morgan, RS Fr. (4-0) vs. Cale Gray, Fr. (4-1).

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS: UCO notched nine bonus-point wins in its dual-opening romp over the Stars, who were penalized a team point during the 174-pound match to arrange the unique final score.

Rosen, Winkler, Abney and Morgan all had falls, while Keim had a first-period technical fall. The Bronchos also got major decisions from Cole, Lucas, DesVigne and Gray in finishing with a 35-1 advantage in takedowns.

Central has five returning All-Americans from last year's sixth-place national tournament team, led by defending champion Gray. Abney was the runner-up last year, while Cole took third, Lucas fifth and Rosen sixth.

Gray and Abney are ranked No. 1, with Cole third, Lucas fifth and Rosen sixth.

Rosen, Keim, Filippo and Morgan all won titles in the season-opening Dan Harris Open on Nov. 7, while Cole was runner-up. Abney, Gray and Lucas didn't wrestle in that event, making their debuts in the OCU dual.

ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS: Indianapolis recorded five falls and three technical falls in addition to receiving two forfeits in its lopsided rout of Defiance.

The Greyhounds also participated in the Brand/Kaufman Open, getting championships from Bailey, Eiteljorge and Blubaugh.

Indy has two returning All-Americans in 157 Dawson Combest and Sams, though Combest isn't slated to compete Sunday.

Ranked individuals for the Greyhounds are Combest (fourth), Sams (fifth), Bailey (10th) and Eiteljorge (12th).
