Givens Sparks UCO In Rally Past Rangers

EDMOND (Nov. 12) – Camryn Givens scored seven of his game-high 21 points in a frenzied 13-0 second-half run that turned the game around and Central Oklahoma went on to topple pesky Northwestern Oklahoma 78-68 Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos overcame a nine-point first-half deficit to make their season debut a successful one on the first day of the Central Region Classic. UCO is back in action Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Mary.

"We knew Northwestern had a good team and they came right at us,"' head coach Bob Hoffman said. "It took us awhile to get going, but we made some big plays in the second half and came out with a good win."

Central trailed 21-12 at one point in the first half and was down 37-36 at intermission. The Rangers still had a one-point lead at 46-45 with 14 minutes left to play when the Bronchos turned it on.

Givens got things going with a layup in traffic to put UCO in front for good and the teams traded misses before Preston Aymond drilled a corner 3-pointer to up the lead to 50-46.

Jaden Wells continued to scoring surge with a 3-pointer from the wing before Givens scored five straight points to end the run. The senior big man converted a three-point play, then followed an NWOSU miss with a fast-break layup off a Callen Haydon feed to make it 58-46 with 11:22 remaining.

The lead peaked at 13 (62-49) on Isaiah Wade's jump shot from the free throw line at the 7:39 mark and the Bronchos made a bunch of clutch free throws down the stretch to keep the Rangers at bay.

Givens made 8-of-12 shots and 5-of-6 free throws in his 21-point outing and also hauled down a game-best 10 rebounds. Wade also had a big game with 19 points and eight boards.

Haydon made all eight of his foul shots in adding 16 points and four assists, while Wells chipped in 10 points. UCO made 22-of-26 foul shots for the game, including 9-of-10 in the last six minutes of the game.
