Bronchos Cruise Past Missouri Western

EDMOND (Oct. 8) – Brynn Egger knocked down 11 kills to pace a balanced attack as Central Oklahoma overwhelmed Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Missouri Western Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos notched their seventh sweep of the season – including the fifth in seven tries at home -- with a 24-13, 25-17, 25-17 rout. UCO never trailed in any of the three sets in improving to 13-3 for the year and 6-2 in the league while dropping the Griffons to 11-5 and 3-4.

Central is back home Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. showdown against No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri.

"We played pretty solid tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Our offense was efficient and we kept our mistakes to a minimum. It was a good win for us and we're looking forward to another big match tomorrow."

The Bronchos hit .291, committing just nine attack errors in 110 attempts while recording 41 kills.

Brynn didn't make an error in 20 attacks as the freshman middle blocker hit .550 in equaling her season high for kills. Four other players had five-plus kills – Courtney Lane (eight), Amanda Desch (six), Lauren Jenkins (six) and Jenna Karp (five).

Karp also had five blocks and Desch four, with Desch also distributing 27 assists and making 13 digs. Katie Le notched a match-high 21 digs.

UCO jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the opening set, but the Griffons came back to tie it at 5-all and it was deadlocked again at 8-8. A Jenkins kill made it 9-8 and the Bronchos pulled away from there, finishing the set on a 17-5 run to close it out.

The second set was tied only once, at 2-2. An MWSU service error put Central in front and the Broncho stayed there as Karp, Lane and Egger had three kills apiece.

Lane had three kills to help stake UCO to a 5-2 lead in the third set and the Bronchos went on to finish off the sweep.
