Broncho Streak Continues Friday

UCO Beats Missouri Southern For Season's Sixth Shutout

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to seven games with its sixth shutout of the season Friday night.

Central Oklahoma 2, Missouri Southern 0.

"We have had two games in a row now that our defense has limited shots at a very high level," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "They're starting to really get a good feel for each other on defense and how to control the game from the backend. We're going to need that kind of play with some tough games coming up. And offensively, it was good to see how many shots we got off and it was good to get to play 22 girls today. That's always a plus."

Monika McGee scored her team leading eighth goal of the season in the 23rd minute, connecting on a header after Harmony Turner and Madison Linavong worked to create the chance.

Linavong then answered with a header of her own to make it 2-0, Central, in the 25th minute. She connected on the header after Meredith Wilson set up the chance.

UCO took a season-high 26 shots in the game and put 12 on goal. Taryn Kedzior managed a game-high five shots on the night. Missouri Southern took three as a team entirely.

Kaitlyn Asher played all 90 minutes in goal for UCO, earning the victory and the shutout. She only had to make one save on the night as the defense in front of her silenced the roar of the Lions of MSSU.

Central Oklahoma improves to 8-2-1 overall with the win and is now 4-0-0 in MIAA competition. The Bronchos are receiving votes in the national rankings and will welcome 18th-ranked Central Missouri to Edmond for a Sunday matinee. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Tom Thompson Field.
