Central Blanks Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Nebraska Kearney.

Central Oklahoma is now 7-2-1 on the season and 3-0-0 in MIAA play. UCO has won four in a row and five of six overall with the one tie on the season.

"We played really well defensively today," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We did a really good job limiting opportunities and that was big. We did good to convert when we needed to on offense. The girls are doing a really good job right now playing together and getting better."

Central Oklahoma outshot Nebraska Kearney an astonishing 23-1 Sunday. The one shot from the hosts was on goal, but Kaitlyn Asher, who played all 45 first-half minutes in goal for the Bronchos, turned it away.

Katie Gasaway scored the game's first goal and did so early in the first half. The junior forward put home a ball from 20 yards out after getting a pass from Tayrn Kedzior.

Monika McGee scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season Sunday. She got a ball from Madison Linavong right in front of the net and buried it to give UCO a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute of play.

Katy Tullis made it 3-0 in the second half. The junior scored an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute to finish off the Broncho victory.

Central Oklahoma will return home from its five-game road trip with four wins and a draw. The Bronchos will not be at home themselves for the next four matches. UCO hosts Missouri Southern Friday before welcoming Central Missouri to Tom Thompson Field next Sunday.
