Central Blanks Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team got back in the win column Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Missouri Western.

Central Oklahoma improved to 11-4-1 overall with the win and the Bronchos are now 7-2-0 in the MIAA. The final weekend of the 2021 regular season is all that remains on the schedule. Central is in third place in the league standings, just three points back of Emporia State.

"We played well today," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "Coming off a loss on Friday the team put that behind them and came out today ready to play. Then we had a long weather delay but we came out of that playing really well. Good to get a win and ready to finish strong next weekend."

Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western went to halftime Sunday tied 0-0. Then just four minutes into the second half, a lightning delay turned into a severe weather delay and the teams sat idle for over an hour.

After play resumed, the Bronchos began to push.

Taryn Kedzior opened the scoring with a shot in the 56th minute with Adria Ramirez getting an assist on the play.

Kedzior was at it again in the 72nd, scoring for the second time with an assist from Monika McGee.

Kedzior, who was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week last week, scored three goals this week including the two Sunday.

Kaitlyn Asher was the key to the shutout once again for the Bronchos. Asher saw 14 shots from Missouri Western and six of those were on target. She saved them all to complete her eighth shutout of the season.

Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western both took 14 shots Sunday. The Bronchos took eight shots on goal to the Griffons' six.

UCO will host Newman this Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field. Central will be playing that match as its annual Pink Game. The Bronchos then will honor their seniors before the final game of the 2021 regular season against Rogers State on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
