UCO Bumped In Overtime

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team lost a 2-1 decision in double overtime Friday afternoon at Northwest Missouri.

The Bronchos are now 10-4-1 on the season and 6-2-0 in the MIAA with three games remaining. Central plays at Missouri Western Sunday in the final road game of the 2021 regular season.

UCO led Friday for most of the game. Taryn Kedzior scored in the 25th minute to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead. The junior got a ball in the corner before beating two defenders into the box. She used her right foot to slide a shot under the NWMSU goalkeeper and put the Bronchos in the lead.

Central led by that same score for the next hour.

UCO, rarely outshot this season, was Friday. The Bronchos took only four shots in the first half, but still led 1-0 at the break. Northwest continued to hold Central's chances. The Bronchos took only five shots in the second half.

Then all of the sudden in the 87th minute, Northwest broke through. The Bearcats took eight first-half shots and 11 more in the second half. The last one by Sydney Mueller tied the match.

Northwest outshot Central 3-0 in the first overtime but the Bronchos still held firm. Unfortunately for UCO Friday, Northwest's Kaylie Rock scored in the 106th minute to win the game for the Bearcats, 2-1.

Kedzior's goal came on one of two shots she took Friday. Kylee Wickersham, Monika McGee, Brooke Moore, Lauren Hinnenkamp and Katy Tullis all took one shot each for the Bronchos. Harmony Turner took a game-high four shots.

Kaitlyn Asher played 105:50 in goal Friday night and made nine saves.

Central Oklahoma will play Missouri Western Sunday at 1 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo. The Bronchos then return home to finish off the 2021 regular season with two games next weekend. UCO hosts Newman next Friday night and Rogers State in the final game next Sunday.
