No. 1 Washburn Too Much For Bronchos

TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 2) -- Top-ranked Washburn was too much for Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon at Lee Arena as the Bronchos had a five-match Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association winning streak snapped.

The Ichabods picked up 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 victories in winning for the sixth straight time. UCO fell to 12-3 on the season and 5-2 in league play, while WU moved to 14-1 and 6-0.

"Washburn had too much firepower for us today," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We had a hard time getting our offense untracked, but they had a lot to do with that. This is one of those matches that we just have to put behind us and get ready for the next one."

The Ichabods had a .331 attack percentage for the match, while Central hit just .102.

Jenna Karp led the Bronchos with eight kills and two blocks. Payton Bell and Lauren Jenkins added five kills, while Bella Burns made 16 digs.

The first set went back-and-forth early and UCO was within 18-15 when the Ichabods ripped off eight unanswered points to close it out. Washburn took control early in each of the next two sets to close out the match.

The Bronchos return to Hamilton Field House to open a three-match MIAA homestand Friday with a 6 p.m. meeting against Missouri Western.
