Central Earns Sweep Of Newman

EDMOND (Oct. 12) – Lauren Jenkins and Jenna Karp keyed a late rally that propelled Central Oklahoma to a tight-second set win and the Bronchos went on to sweep Newman Tuesday night at Hamilton Field House.

UCO took the first set 25-18, then got two kills apiece from Jenkins and Karp in a 7-2 run that turned a 20-18 deficit into a 25-22 win. The Bronchos finished off the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association sweep with a 25-19 third-set victory.

Central improved to 14-4 overall and 7-3 in the league in beating the Jets for the second time this season. The Bronchos return to action quickly, traveling to Warrensburg, Mo. Thursday to take on No. 5-ranked Central Missouri.

"We came out a little lethargic and it took us awhile to get going," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We did what we needed to do."

Brynn Egger led the Bronchos, hitting .455 while tying her season high with 11 kills and just one error in 22 attacks. Nalani McCrary was strong at the net with seven kills in just 14 attempts (.500 attack percentage) while also making four blocks.

Courtney Lane collected nine kills in limited action, while Jenkins finished with six kills and Karp five. Mallorie Koehn chipped in three kills.

Amanda Desch handed out 35 assists and Katie Le once again paced the back-row with 17 digs.

Lane dominated the first set, knocking down seven kills as UCO overcame an early deficit.

The second set went back-and-fourth before the Jets surged in front 17-13. The Bronchos came back to tie it at 18-all, then fell behind 20-18.

Egger started the set-turning surge with a kill, then Jenkins scored with a tip at the net and followed with a  shot down the line to put UCO in front. Karp followed with consecutive kills of her own, the second a deep shot that hit just inside the line, and the Bronchos led 23-20.

The Jets couldn't answer back and Central was in control of the match.

Egger and McCrary teamed up for a block to start the third set, Koehn followed with an ace and the Bronchos never trailed in wrapping up their eighth sweep of the season.
