Bronchos Roll Over Emporia

EMPORIA, Kan. (Oct. 1) -- Streaking Central Oklahoma rolled past Emporia State for its fifth straight Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association win Friday night, claiming 25-21, 25-14, 25-21 victories.

The Bronchos improved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the league with the win. UCO moves on to Topeka, Kan. Saturday for an afternoon showdown against top-ranked Washburn.

"We didn't play great, but the girls came out and did what we needed to do," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Any time you can win on the road in this conference it's big, so we're happy with how we did and we're looking forward to a big challenge tomorrow."

Courtney Lane led a balanced attack with 10 kills, while Jenna Karp had nine kills and six blocks. The Bronchos also got five kills each from Brynn Egger and Lauren Jenkins, with Katie Le (23 digs) and Bella Burns (16) pacing the back-row defense.

UCO was up 22-21 in the first set before finishing with three straight points, getting a kill and service ace from Lane and a kill from Jenkins in closing out the set. The next two sets were close early before the Bronchos broke away to take charge en route to finishing off the sweep.
