UCO Wins Third Straight

HAYS, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team won its third consecutive match Friday night with a 2-1 decision over Fort Hays State.

Central Oklahoma improved to 6-2-1 overall this season with the win and the Bronchos are now 2-0-0 in MIAA play.

UCO got on the board early with a first-half goal by Monika McGee. She scored in the 11th minute thanks to an assist from Emily Tincher. But Hays answered back, adding the equalizer in in the 12th minute, just 61 seconds after McGee's goal.

The first half stayed tied for over 30 minutes, but Taryn Kedzior's 44th-minute unassisted strike gave the Bronchos the lead, 2-1.

UCO outshot the Tigers 7-5 in the first half and the Bronchos put up seven more shots in the second half to Hays's four. Central put 9 of 14 shots on goal in the match.

Kaitlyn Asher played all 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and picked up the win thanks to making four saves. Fort Hays State put 5 of 9 shots on goal in the game and Asher turned a way a stiff 80 percent.

Kedzior led Central with three shots Friday and all three were on goal. McGee only took the one she netted in the first half.

Harmony Turner took two shots off the bench for Central. Katy Tullis and Madison Linavong each took one, as did Eden Jones in a start.

Central Oklahoma has won three in a row after a tie at Newman in a non-conference match. UCO is unbeaten in five matches too.

UCO will play at Nebraska Kearney Sunday at 1 p.m. to wrap up its five-game road trip.
