MIAA Announces Guidelines For Return

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's and women's golf teams, as well as the tennis team, will be allowed to return to all normal non-championship segment activities and will be excluded from the MIAA's adjusted start dates, the league announced Wednesday.

Those sports compete in the fall in the non-championship segment before competing again in the spring in the championship segment (i.e. the league championship and national championship are held in the spring semester). The MIAA announced earlier this month that all sports will be delayed, holding no practices prior to Aug. 31 and no competition prior to Sept. 28. Wednesday's announcement reverses course for both Broncho golf teams and the tennis team.

The MIAA also announced returning guidelines for other sports.

All voluntary activities are permitted up to the first day of class. Football will be allowed to conduct team meetings as well as strength and conditioning but will be limited to 15 hours of countable athletic related activity per week. Football will also be allowed to begin its acclimation period on Aug. 25 as to allow for a full practice on Aug. 31, the league's first allowable date of practice.

For the rest of fall championship sports (volleyball, soccer, and cross country), teams will follow a similar pattern to football with the exception of the acclimation period.

All other sports, winter and spring championship sports, will not be permitted to conduct any physical activity prior to Aug. 31. Team meetings are allowed, and student-athletes are limited to eight hours of team activity per week during that time.
