SHAWNEE, Okla. – While the University of Central Oklahoma hosted the annual basketball all-state games Saturday, Oklahoma Baptist University hosted the football all-state games. And similar to Central's future representatives in the basketball game in Edmond, some soon-to-be Bronchos made an impact in their final football game before heading to campus next month.
D.J. Flowers, Jayce Gardner, Hunter Largent, Kyshon Murray, Drake Parker, Jaxon Ratterree, and Elijah Wright all played in the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association All-State game Saturday at OBU's Crain Family Stadium.
The West won 21-13.
Ratterree, the West squad's starting quarterback from Weatherford High School, scored the game's opening touchdown with 11:22 to play in the second quarter. He capped off a 6-play, 80-yard scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown run.
After the East got a pair of touchdowns from Dylan Kedzior, whose older sister Taryn Kedzior is a two-time All-MIAA defender on the Broncho soccer team, the West regained the lead thanks to another future Broncho.
Gardner, a running back from Moore High, scored on a 2-yard touchdown run to cap off a 10-play, 69-yard scoring drive and give the West a 14-13 lead. That proved to be the game-winning score. Ratterree tossed one more touchdown, a 9-yard pass to Sam Brandt that made it 21-13.
Wright, a linebacker from Vian High School and is the only representative from the East All-State team heading to Central, tallied five tackles in the game. He was named the East's Defensive Player of the Game.
Ratterree finished 15-for-19 passing with 162 yards and one touchdown. He also had eight carries for 36 yards and a score. He was named the West's Offensive Player of the Game.
Gardner had 11 carries for 41 yards and a touchdown to go with two catches for 13 yards.
Murray, from Del City, had two punt returns for 18 yards, including a long of 11 yards. The defensive back also had three tackles and two passes broken up.
Parker, also a DB, also made three tackles, Largent, who plays defensive line, made one, and Flowers, another lineman, was credited with one QB hurry.
The seven future Bronchos are ready to get on campus next month and will all look to help the Bronchos this fall.
