Bronchos Make Home Debut This Weekend

Central Oklahoma makes its 2020 home debut this weekend when the Bronchos host six games in three days during the UCO Invitational.

The Bronchos open against Southwestern Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Friday, then play Southeastern Oklahoma immediately following that contest. Central returns Saturday to take on Southwest Baptist at noon and Colorado Christian at 2 p.m. before finishing Sunday with games against Colorado School of Mines (noon) and East Central (4 p.m.).

UCO will be looking to rebound from last weekend's 1-5 performance at the season-opening Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational in Conroe, Texas.

"Obviously we didn't get off to the start we wanted to last week," head coach Cody White said. "We didn't play anywhere near like we're capable of, but that's in the past and and we're just looking ahead. Our players are excited about being home and I expect us to play well this weekend."

The Bronchos struggled offensively in Texas, scoring just 11 runs in the six games while hitting .209.

All-American Hazel Puempel started the season strong and is hitting .389 with a double and three runs batted in to lead the team. Brighton Gilbert has a .333 average and Lexy Dobson is at .300.

Errors proved costly last weekend as UCO allowed nine unearned runs. Junior newcomer Corrina Rivas pitched well in her first outings with the Bronchos but took some tough losses and is 1-3 despite a paltry 0.93 earned run average.

This weekend opens a 19-game homestand for Central, which will host tournaments the next three weeks before playing its first four Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association games at home.
