UCO Falls To No. 3 Lopers

KEARNEY, Neb. (Sept. 28) – Central Oklahoma couldn't keep up with No. 3-ranked Nebraska-Kearney Saturday afternoon at the Health and Sports Center as the Bronchos fell in three sets.

The unbeaten and defending Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Lopers won 25-15, 25-10, 25-11, dropping UCO to 10-4 on the season and 2-2 in league play. UNK, which has lost just four sets all season, is now 13-0 overall and 4-0 in league play.

"Kearney has a great team and they were just too much for us today," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We didn't help ourselves with all our mistakes, but hopefully we can learn from this."

Central had more errors (21) than kills (20) in 116 attacks in finishing with a season-low minus-.009 hitting percentage.

Amanda Desch led the Bronchos with eight kills to go along with 16 digs and eight assists, while Courtney Lane chipped in seven kills.

Dominique Lipari had 16 digs from her libero spot to reach an even 2,000 for her career, becoming just the third player in school history to reach that milestone.

UCO grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the opening set behind a Lane kill, but the Bronchos committed five mistakes during a 7-1 UNK run in falling behind 7-3. The Bronchos were within 13-12 after a Kaeli Robinson kill before the Lopers ripped off five unanswered points to take control.

Central had nine attack errors in the second set alone as UNK jumped out to a 10-1 lead en route to a lopsided win. It was 3-3 in the third set after a Desch kill, but the Lopers scored the next three points and pulled away from there.

UCO opens a three-match league homestand Tuesday, hosting Missouri Southern for a 7 p.m. contest at Hamilton Field House.
