Dylan Hall's One-Hitter Sparks Bronchos In Postseason Opener

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team beat Lindenwood 3-0 Thursday in the first game of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Postseason Tournament at Pittsburg State's Al Ortolani Field.

Dylan Hall threw a complete-game one-hit shutout to propel the Bronchos to victory. After receiving his First Team All-MIAA award before the game, Hall came out and struck out the first batter he saw before going nine innings, allowing only one hit and one walk on the day. The junior righty who already owns the UCO school record for strikeouts in a single season. He struck out six Thursday and now has 117 on the season.

"We've been riding this pitching staff all season and they've carried us to where we are. Today was no different," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "Dylan was solid today and it was fun to watch. He set the tone early and set the tone for the tournament. Now we just need to carry that into tomorrow."

Hall allowed the only hit of the game with to the second batter of the game. He then issued a walk to put two on in the top of the first. After a pair of fiedler's choice plays to get out of the inning, Hall retired the next 24 batters in order. Thursday marked just the 13th one-hitter since 1960 for a Broncho pitcher.

UCO got on the board in the third inning. After getting a hit in each of the first, the Bronchos landed a pair of base hits in the third and neither one of them left the infield.

Ryan Harrel led off the inning getting hit by a pitch, then TJ Black laid down a bunt single to put two on in the inning. Brock Ruminer followed with a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over. Philip Scott reached on a fielder's choice on the next play and Harrel was out at the plate. But an infield single by Kyle Crowl off the Lindenwood pitcher's hip scored Black and gave Central a 1-0 lead.

Central Oklahoma doubled its lead in the bottom of the fifth. Brock Ruminer singled to right field with one out, then stole second base a few pitches later. Scott was the next batter and he singled up the middle to score Ruminer and give UCO a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth, following a two-out walk by Harrel, and a pair of stolen bases by the junior shortstop, a Scott single scored Harrel and gave UCO a 3-0 lead.

That lead was more than enough for Hall.

Black led UCO at the plate Thursday with a 2-4 performance. He had two singles and scored a run. Scott also went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Each of Central's first seven batters recorded at least one hit. TK McWhertor's double in the eighth was the only extra-base hit of the game.
