UCO Beats Bearcats In Bolivar

BOLIVAR, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team beat Southwest Baptist 6-1 Saturday afternoon in the first of two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association contests at Dodson Field behind a dominating performance by Broncho starter Dylan Hall.

Hall threw another gem on the bump for the Bronchos Saturday. He took a no-hitter into the eigth inning and would go 7 1/3 before SBU finally found a base hit. Hall struck out seven on the day, three of which went down looking. He only walked one batter and allowed two hits over his final line of eight innings pitched.

"Dylan has been really good for us this year and he was no different today," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "He pitched really well today and our offense had his back."

Hall's seven strikeouts Saturday moved him to 111 on the season and in doing so, became the new single season record holder at Central Oklahoma.

Dru Barrier knocked a single in the top of the second inning to score Taylor Avila and put UCO on the scoreboard, up 1-0.

UCO added to that in the top of the third.

Brock Ruminer followed a TJ Black double with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Joe Mondragon then singled up the middle to scored Ruminer. TK McWhertor reached on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt after that to score Philip Scott, who reached on a sac-bunt himself earlier in the inning.

Mondragon was at it again in the seventh inning. After both Black and Ruminer found a way on bases thanks to SBU errors, Mondragon singled through the right side to score both runners and give UCO a 6-0 lead in the game.

SBU added one run in the bottom of the ninth to get on the scoreboard.

Ruminer, Mondragon, and Barrier each had a pair of hits to lead UCO Saturday. The teams will play again at 4 p.m. Saturday before closing out the 2019 regular season Sunday afternoon.
