Central Falls In Finale At Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped the second game of a doubleheader and the third game of its series with Lindenwood Saturday, falling 4-3 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association finale at Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Central Oklahoma is 20-13 following the series and 12-9 in the MIAA.

"We're disappointed that we didn't win the series," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "The goal is to win every series and we didn't do that today. We'll move on from this and try to get better and ready for the next one."

UCO made a rally in Saturday's second game. The Bronchos scored twice in the top of the ninth while fighting for the series. Brice West drilled a one-out triple to right center, Kyle Crowl followed with a two-out double to left center, then Paul Kropf traded places with Crowl with a double of his own.

But West and Crowl's runs weren't enough for UCO in the end.

The Bronchos left 13 runners on base, including three in top of the eight while trailing just 3-1.

Crowl, Philip Scott and Taylor Avila both had a pair of hits to lead UCO. Scott was 2-for-5 while Avila went 2-for-3. Crowl went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one run and one RBI.

Schaffer, Kropf, Joe Mondragon, and Kace Massner also added hits on the afternoon.

Spencer Van Scoyoc got the start for the Bronchos Saturday. The lefty threw three innings, allowed two runs on three hits and four walks, and struck out two. Colton Croft threw 1 2/3 innings of relief work, allowing one run on four hits and one walk. He struck out one. Junior Obeso then threw the final 3 1/3, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four.

Central Oklahoma will turn its attention to a mid-week non-conference matchup next. The Bronchos make the trek to Oklahoma City to take on Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday before hitting the road yet again for an MIAA series. UCO visits Northeastern State for three games in Tahlequah next weekend.
