Eicher Homer Lifts Bronchos Past Pitt State

PITTSBURG, Kan. (April 27) – Allie Eicher belted a two-run home run and Bailey McKittrick had another dominating pitching outing to guide top-ranked Central Oklahoma past Pittsburg State 4-1 in the first game of Saturday afternoon doubleheader.

Eicher's two-run blast in the second put the Bronchos ahead and McKittrick made sure they stayed there.  The freshman right-hander gave up just a second-inning run and finished with a three-hitter.

McKittrick walked three and struck out four in her 13th complete game in 18 starts this season.  She improved to 21-2, giving her the second-most wins by a freshman in school history.

UCO improved to 41-4 overall and 23-2 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play heading into the second game of the doubleheader that will wrap up the regular season schedule.

The Bronchos managed eight hits in the contest, getting two from Casady Webb.

Eicher put UCO ahead to stay when she followed Lexy Dobson's one-out single in the second with a high fly ball that carried over the centerfield fence.  It was the third homer of the season for Eicher and her first since March 8.

The Gorillas scored their lone run in the bottom of the second, with Central getting out of the inning on the scoring play when catcher Halley Randolph gunned down a runner trying to go to third base on the play.

Randolph was in the center of the action again in the top of the third after drawing a lead-off walk when she was thrown out in a close play at home trying to score on JoBi Heath's double to right-center.  It was the 68th double of Heath's stellar career, tying the all-time school record held by Morgan Heard.

UCO added to its lead in the fifth on Dobson's sacrifice fly and the sophomore left fielder came up with a key defensive play in the bottom half of that inning when she fielded a line drive and threw out a runner at first to complete a double play.

The
Bronchos made it 4-1 in the sixth when Brightton Gilbert reached second on a lead-off error, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Puempel's groundout.
