Bronchos Edge Central Missouri In Opener

EDMOND (April 11) – Halley Randolph broke a 1-1 tie with a fourth-inning two-run single and No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma went on to topple Central Missouri 4-1 in the first game of a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

The Bronchos improved to 32-3 overall and 14-1 in the conference heading into the nightcap.

UCO had seven hits and eight walks in staying perfect (15-0) at home, but left the bases loaded three times and stranded 11 runners.

The Bronchos used two of those walks in taking the lead in the fourth.

Casady Webb walked to lead off the inning, Hazel Puempel had a two-out single to center field and Bailey Thompson walked to load the bases for Randolph, who fouled off three two-strike pitches before coming through with a two-run bloop single down the left field line to make it 3-1.

UCO added an insurance run in the sixth on JoBi Heath's RBI single through the left side, then fended off another Central Missouri scoring threat in the top of the seventh.

The Jennies had a pair of hits before a pop-up to shortstop ended the game as Bailey McKittrick finished off her ninth complete game of the season.  The rookie standout gave up nine hits, but didn't walk a batter and improved to 17-1.

McKittrick escaped trouble several times in the game, including in the top of the first when UCM had three hits and scored its lone run.  The Jennies put the lead-off runner on second in three innings – twice via errors – and all three times McKittrick responded by getting three straight fly outs.

UCO answered Central Missouri's opening run with a tying score in in the second.  Carli Jones reached on a fielder's choice and went to second on a wild pitch before Allie Eicher – playing her first game since having appendix surgery on March 24 – lined an RBI single to left field.

Heath went 2-for-2 with two walks in leading the offense.
