UCO Sweeps Northwest Missouri

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Northwest Missouri Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 win in MIAA play at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos improved to 9-5 overall on the season with the win and are now 3-3 in the MIAA. UCO beat NWMSU 10-0 in a seven-inning run-rule in the first game and 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday, winning the series by a combined 20-1.

"We got a lot of good things to work in the series," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "It's good to see the pitching staff come together for another shutout and I think that all of our guys battled at the plate to help out."

Gabe Littlejim earned the win Saturday after a six-inning shutout performance. The senior right-hander struck out eight in six innings, allowing only two hits and no walks.

Landon Bond, Junior Obeso, and Josh Rutland all threw one inning of relief work, allowing no hits threw the final three innings. Bond and Obeso each struck out one.

Dru Barrier, who hit leadoff for the Bronchos Saturday, led the charge going 3-for-4 at the plate. The junior left fielder had three singles and three RBIs.

The Bronchos scattered eight hits on the day. Philip Scott, Paul Kropf, Brice West, T.J. Black and Brock Ruminer all had one hit on the afternoon.

Central Oklahoma will play again on Tuesday, hosting Oklahoma Baptist at 5 p.m. The Bronchos are still awaiting their first road trip of the season. UCO was supposed to travel to Northwest Missouri this weekend before weather moved the series to Edmond. UCO is scheduled to play at Central Missouri next weekend.
