Central Routs Blue Tigers In Opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (March 17) – Brighton Gilbert and Casady Webb combined for five hits and six runs batted in to lead No. 4-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 9-1 thrashing of Lincoln Sunday in the first game of a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader.

Gilbert went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Webb was 3-for-4 with three RBI to highlight a 14-hit attack.  Allie Eicher, Lexy Dobson, JoBi Heath and Bailey Thompson all had two hits apiece.

It was the 19th straight win for the Bronchos, who improved to 23-1 on the season and 7-0 in the league heading into the nightcap.

Central jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second and was up 7-1 after three innings.

Heath led off the second with a walk and she went to third on Dobson's one-out single through the right side.  Eicher reached on a fielder's choice that scored Heath, then Webb and Gilbert had back-to-back RBI singles.

The Blue Tigers got a run back in the bottom of the second with a solo homer, but UCO answered back in emphatic fashion in the third.

Heath got things started with a one-out single, with consecutive base hits by Carli Jones and Dobson loading the bases.  Eicher drove in one run with a single down the right field line, Webb's double to center field plated two more and Gilbert's RBI double down the left field line made it 7-1.

The Bronchos didn't score again until the sixth when Thompson led off with a double and came across on Heath's one-out double down the right field line.  It was Heath's 17th double in 24 games and the sixth straight contest in which she's had at least one.

Central pushed the advantage to 9-1 in the seventh as Eicher led off with a single, went to third on Webb's third hit of the game and scored on Gilbert's sacrifice fly.

Sydney McLeod and Lauren Gibson teamed up in the pitching circle for the Bronchos.

McLeod started and gave up one run on four hits in the first four innings to pick up the win, improving to 10-1, while Gibson earned her first save of the year by throwing three shutout innings to close out the game.
