No. 4 UCO Rolls Over Lions In Game One

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (March 16) – Casady Webb went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead a 13-hit assault and No. 4-ranked Central Oklahoma stretched its winning streak to 17 in a row with an 11-1 first-game rout of Lindenwood Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos seized early control, collecting four extra-base hits in scoring eight runs in the first two innings and improved to 21-1 while staying perfect (5-0) in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

UCO, playing its first out-of-state game since Feb. 3, wasted little time against the Lions.

Hazel Puempel – as has become her custom – got the Bronchos started with a lead-off single in the top of the first and Halley Randolph drew a one-out walk before JoBi Heath ripped a two-run double to left-center.

Carli Jones followed with an RBI triple to right field, then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to stake UCO to a 4-0 lead.

The cushion grew to 8-0 in the second.

Webb opened the inning with a single, Puempel delivered a one-out RBI double to left-center and Bailey Thompson followed with a bunt single.  Halley Randolph then cleared the bases with her second home run of the season, this one a line-drive shot over the left field fence.

Webb got the Bronchos going again in the third with a lead-off single through the left side and Brighton Gilbert reached on an infield single before a two-base error allowed Webb to score.  Gilbert came across on a passed ball to push the lead to 10-0.

The onslaught continued in the fourth with two more extra base hits.  Jones led off with a double to center field and scored on Webb's two-out double down the left field line to make it 11-0.

Lindenwood scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn't near enough to prevent the Bronchos from ending the game early on the eight-run rule.

Puempel, Heath, Jones and Gilbert had two hits apiece to back up Webb's three-hit performance.

Sydney McLeod picked up the pitching win, improving to 10-1.  The junior left-hander lost her shutout bid in the bottom of the fifth, but still finished off her sixth complete-game outing of the season.
