Bronchos Complete Sweep Of Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (March 16) – JoBi Heath and Halley Randolph drove in two runs apiece as Central Oklahoma knocked off Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rival Lindenwood 4-1 to complete a doubleheader sweep.

The No. 4-ranked Bronchos won for the 18th straight time – the second-longest winning streak in school history – while improving to 22-1 on the season and 6-0 in the conference.  UCO moves on to Jefferson City, Mo. Sunday for a 12 p.m. league twinbill against Lincoln.

"We picked up two good wins today," head coach Cody White said.  "It's the first time we've been on the road in a long time and I was pleased with the way we competed."

Central, playing its out-of-state road games since the season-opening weekend back on Feb. 1-3, finished with seven hits in the contest after collecting 13 in an 11-1 first-game romp.

Hazel Puempel and Bailey Thompson had two hits each.

Bailey McKittrick picked up the pitching win to stay unbeaten, improving to 10-0.  The rookie right-hander struck out nine batters and walked two while scattering seven hits.

UCO broke on top in its first at bat of the game on Heath's run-scoring fielder's choice.

Puempel led off with a single to right-center field, Thompson followed with a single through the left side and Randolph walked to load the bases before Puempel went home on Heath's hard-hit grounder that forced Randolph out at second.

The Lions tied it in the bottom of the first with a single run and then loaded the bases with two outs, but McKittrick got out of the jam with a fly out.

Central broke the deadlock in the third with a pair of runs.

Thompson got things started with a one-out triple down the right field line and scored on Randolph's single, then Heath ripped an RBI double to right-center to make it 3-1.  It marked Heath's fifth straight game with at least one double.

The Bronchos went up 4-1 in the sixth on Randolph's RBI fielder's choice that scored Puempel, who had led off the inning with a single before stealing second and taking third on Thompson's sacrifice bunt.
